Early History and Founding
Antoni Patek was born in 1811 in Piaski, Poland, then part of the Russian Empire.
He was a Polish soldier who fought in the November Uprising of 1830-1831 against Russian rule in Poland.
In 1833, Patek emigrated to Switzerland, where he worked as a watchmaker, and eventually opened his watchmaking workshop in Geneva in 1839.
However, Franciszek Czapek, a Polish emigre and watchmaker who had his workshop in Warsaw before moving to Geneva, partnered with Patek to create Patek, Czapek & Co In 1839.
The partnership lasted six years, during which time they produced some notable watches, including one commissioned by Queen Victoria of England.
In 1844, Czapek left the business, and Patek ran it independently.
But, in 1845, he met Adrien Philippe, a talented watchmaker who had invented the keyless winding mechanism.
Philippe became a partner in the business, and the company was renamed Patek Philippe & Co.

Patek Philippe has a long history of innovation and achievement in horology.
- In 1868, the company created the first Swiss wristwatch, a ladies’ timepiece with a bracelet.

- In 1925, the company introduced the first watch with a split-seconds chronograph, which allows for the timing of two separate events.
